Baal’s journey into acting began serendipitously. After completing secondary school at sixteen, she trained as a fashion illustrator. Her path changed when she learned that director Georg Tressler was casting for a film. This opportunity led to her debut in the 1956 film “Teenage Wolfpack,” marking the start of a prolific career.

Throughout her career, Baal showcased her versatility across various genres. Notable films include “Rosemary” (1958), “The Dead Eyes of London” (1961), and “What Have You Done to Solange?” (1972). Her television appearances were equally significant, with roles in series like “Derrick” and “Berlin Alexanderplatz.”
Baal’s personal life was marked by several marriages. She married Karlheinz Gaffkus in 1960, with whom she had a son, Thomas. After their divorce, she married actor Helmuth Lohner in 1962, and they had a daughter, Therese Lohner, who also pursued acting. Baal’s third husband, actor Volker Eckstein, passed away in 1993
